Priya Ahluwalia is a fashion designer who makes clothes with a very clear socially responsible and cross cultural dimension which is why she is a multicultural fashion designer. She is London born of Yoruba Nigerian father and Indian mother so she has always been in contact with different cultures and traditions. She attended the University of Westminster and London College of Fashion where she made fabrics and prints into contemporary shapes such as combining old textile patterns with modern dress designs.
Priya Ahluwalia began her professional path as an intern in Alexander McQueen’s fashion house working with a specialisation of tailoring and embroidery. In 2018, she launched a brand named Ahluwalia, inspired by her diverse background and frequent trips to Lagos and Delhi. The designs are made out of cut and sew recycling a lot of deadstock materials using patches, embroidery, and color. Apart from running her own brand, she has worked on projects with the brands: Adidas, Ganni, Browns, Liberty London, and published a book called Jalebi depicting the South Asian diaspora in London.
