Jayson Tatum was born on March 3rd, 1998 in St Louis, California. He is of American nationality. He plays forward position for Boston Celtics in the NBA as a professional basketball player. His parents Brandy Cole and Justin Tatum divorced very early when he was a toddler. Two main contributors towards the rise of Tatum were his mother and grandfather, who were absolutely devoted fans to him. He started to take basketball seriously at the age of four and went onto playing for the Chaminade College Preparatory School. Over the years Jayson established himself as one of the brightest young talents in the United States. He was named Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2014. He was previously selected in the 2017 NBA draft by Boston Celtics as the third overall pick. It only took him one season to establish himself as an elite player in the league. Jayson Tatum played in the NBA All-Star games in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. As of now Tatum is very young and has a few more years to go to become one of the best players in history.
Jayson joined Duke University
Jayson transitioned to Duke University in 2016 and played for the Duke Blue Devils during one season only. He stated, “I am regularly making 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and too 2.1 assists in a game,” and was also honored with Third-team All-ACC and ACC All-freshman team nominations. He had a year of college basketball and in 2017 opted for the draft and was picked third overall by the Boston Celtics. He was able to play his first game in NBA against the measured Cavaliers squad where he finished with 14 points on the board. The following season averaged 13.9-point scoring, 5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, made it to NBA All-rookie First Team.
In his second season, Jayson raised his game and became an invaluable asset for the Celtics. He scored 15.7 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made an average of 2.1 assists and helped the Celtics in making it to the playoffs’ Eastern Conference semi finals. He was a part of the Team USA in 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup but was not able to participate much due to injury on his ankle. He did manage to come back from the injury and proceeded to have a dominating third season in the NBA. He had a scoring average of 23.4 points and made 7 rebounds and 3 assists and earned his first selection in the NBA All Star team and the All-NBA 3rd Team. On February 23, 2020, he scored a career best of 41 points against the Los Angeles Lakers also making him the youngest player to achieve the feat.
In his fourth year, Jayson again showed his potential and transformed into one of the best players in the league. He averaged 26.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while earning a Second (2) selection on the All-Star team and on the All-NBA First Team. On April 30, 2021, during a game against the San Antonio Spurs, he scored a franchise record of 60 points, matching the record set by Larry Bird. In the playoffs, he helped the Celtics reach the Eastern Conference finals but on this occasion, they lost to the Miami Heat after 6 games.
