At the age of 11 years, Bopanna took the courts to learn and started his professional career in 2003. Bopanna has won 24 ATP world tennis doubles tournaments. Of these, five were in the Masters 1000. Has also participated in 4 Grand Slam finals, winning two in doubles and two mixed doubles, winning the 2017 French Open mixed doubles alongside Gabriela Dabrowski and the men’s doubles Australian Open in 2024 with Ebden. He has been part of the Indian Davis cup team since 2002 and has participated in the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. He has also received two gold medals in Asian Games held in the year 2018 and 2022.

Bopanna rumours were also rife about him having clashed with his former teammate Leander Paes regarding selections in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Bopanna preferred playing with Saketh Myneni, but he was paired with Paes by the All India Tennis Association (AITA). The pair made their exit after the first round in the men’s doubles competition. Bopanna later explained that there were no hard feelings between him and Paes as they were more of business oriented than personal, although they had quite a few differences as far as play was concerned.
